Welcome

So a long time ago (the mid-1990s), the greatest writer in comics agreed to take over the writing duties for Image Comics' Supreme. He would radically reshape the character, the book, and due to forces beyond his control, a whole comic book universe. And it led to an award-winning run of comics, three additional titles (among several proposed) and ultimately led to the genesis of Moore's much better known America's Best Comics. And then it all went out of print and was forgotten by way too many.

Having gathered quite a bit of information about Moore's Supreme and Awesome runs, I decided to create a home for the forgotten Awesome. Over the course of a year, I put it all together here.

Each week I did a main "Weekly Reading" post that was a read-through of that issue. I followed that up with a couple of other posts about topics from that Weekly Reading or whatever else I came up with to talk about. You'll find the lost Youngbloods in the Youngblood section and the fan-edit of the last Supreme in After Awesome.

Below is the archive of posts broken up by book. Thanks for checking the site out!

Book 1: Supreme: The Story of the Year

Book 1: Judgment Day

Book 3: Supreme: The Return

Book 4: Youngblood

Book 5: Glory

Book 6: After Awesome

Book 7: 1963

Book 8: Night Raven

Book 9: A Small Killing

New custom Supreme/Awesome hardcovers - parts 1 & 2

Hey everyone! So, this is a project I've been working on for a year or more. I have made my ultimate set of Awesome hardcovers. I'm still working on dust jackets for four more of them, so I'm just showing the first two, which I've finished.

Presenting the ultimate Supreme hardcover set!

These two hardcovers feature all of the published issues and my imaginary conclusion fan-edit of Supreme 64! It also includes loads of extras, such as rare interviews with Moore, Veitch, Sprouse; tons of rare and unpublished art; a fold-out poster; and scripts for two issues! Issue 41 is signed by Moore and 53 is signed by Chris Sprouse (sorry slabbers who now think I ruined the value of those issues)!

The covers are from a painting by Alex Ross! I even made a slipcase with another Alex Ross painting to keep the books nice and safe. Let me know what you think and stay tuned for more books to come!

  1. Hi Mike,

I knew at one time there with plans for this, a custom book, but the new pages, interviews and extras (plus the signed #41) just put the whole project over the top. Amazing. And very attractive hard binding.

Great work, from a supreme fan of SUPREME!

  3. I'm blown away. Even DC does not bring this level of attention, detail and care when they collect Alan Moore's work. Kudos for some truly excellent work. YOU should be working for a Marvel or DC collected editions department.

Of course without JUDGMENT DAY and the published stories of Moore's YOUNGBLOOD and GLORY it's still going to seem somehow incomplete. Yet even as published, you've got all those bits and pieces from different books (besides GLORY #0-2) to assemble, so maybe it's not worth the effort to cut them all up.

    1. Ha, I'm too much a completist for that. I just put them in other volumes. Really, the two missing issues of Glory (3 and 4) will stick in my craw forever.

  4. I was so frustrated that Checker left things out, especially the Judgment Day TP, which should have included the pages from the Judgment Day Sourcebook, the Shaft prologue, "A Short History of Twilight", Youngblood #1 & 2, and Awesome Adventures #1, at a minimum, besides Judgment Day Alpha, Omega, #3, and Aftermath. Fortunately it's easy to make a digital collection of the scanned pages and assemble them in the right order. But a real book would have been so much better.

    1. Yeah, it wasn't until years later that I put all of the little pieces together and saw how Supreme led to Judgment Day, which led to his revamped Youngblood. I've never seen a company make it so hard to follow the relaunch of their flagship title as Awesome did. That's one of the reasons I make my own hardcovers, so it's all together in one easy to read place/order.
