Welcome

So a long time ago (the mid-1990s), the greatest writer in comics agreed to take over the writing duties for Image Comics' Supreme. He would radically reshape the character, the book, and due to forces beyond his control, a whole comic book universe. And it led to an award-winning run of comics, three additional titles (among several proposed) and ultimately led to the genesis of Moore's much better known America's Best Comics. And then it all went out of print and was forgotten by way too many.

Having gathered quite a bit of information about Moore's Supreme and Awesome runs, I decided to create a home for the forgotten Awesome. Over the course of a year, I put it all together here.

Each week I did a main "Weekly Reading" post that was a read-through of that issue. I followed that up with a couple of other posts about topics from that Weekly Reading or whatever else I came up with to talk about. You'll find the lost Youngbloods in the Youngblood section and the fan-edit of the last Supreme in After Awesome.

Below is the archive of posts broken up by book. Thanks for checking the site out!

Book 1: Supreme: The Story of the Year

Book 1: Judgment Day

Book 3: Supreme: The Return

Book 4: Youngblood

Book 5: Glory

Book 6: After Awesome

Book 7: 1963

Book 8: Night Raven

Book 9: A Small Killing

  1. Thanks a lot for sharing this script. I'd like to confirm if pages 23 and 30 are missing, please.

    1. Hi. Page 23 was missing, so I re-uploaded it. Page 30 of the script was half filled, where Moore stopped after describing page 20 of the comic. When Moore was running late, he'd often fax as many pages as he had so the artist could get to work and he'd fax the rest once they were done. Page 31 of the script was where he filled up the other half. So page 31 took the place of page 30 in the script (and why I didn't upload it).

    2. Brilliant, Mike. Thank you so much. I'm a big fan of AM's Supreme and I'm loving your page. BTW I'm the owner of Joe Bennett's commission art and I conducted the interview with him that you've shared - and I'm glad you did. If you need anything you can find me at fb.com/AlanMooreBR
      Take care.

    1. That's a beautiful piece you got from Bennett, and I enjoyed the interview you did with him. I've thought about getting a commission from him, but wanted to try from Sprouse and Veitch first. I don't think Bennett gets enough credit for the job he did on Issue 41. I'm not crazy about his '90s Image style, but the work he did showing all the Supremes from over the years, was brilliant. I always wondered why he didn't stay on as the regular artist after the first few issues? He was certainly better than quite a few of the artists who followed.
