Welcome

So a long time ago (the mid-1990s), the greatest writer in comics agreed to take over the writing duties for Image Comics' Supreme. He would radically reshape the character, the book, and due to forces beyond his control, a whole comic book universe. And it led to an award-winning run of comics, three additional titles (among several proposed) and ultimately led to the genesis of Moore's much better known America's Best Comics. And then it all went out of print and was forgotten by way too many.

Having gathered quite a bit of information about Moore's Supreme and Awesome runs, I decided to create a home for the forgotten Awesome. Over the course of a year, I put it all together here.

Each week I did a main "Weekly Reading" post that was a read-through of that issue. I followed that up with a couple of other posts about topics from that Weekly Reading or whatever else I came up with to talk about. You'll find the lost Youngbloods in the Youngblood section and the fan-edit of the last Supreme in After Awesome.

Below is the archive of posts broken up by book. Thanks for checking the site out!

The Moore seeds for Youngblood #10

Again, not a lot of ideas came from Alan Moore's proposal, at least as far as I can tell, except for MAGNO. But I'll list what I can see and if you see any others, let me know in the comments.

  • Moore wrote about the MAGNO adventure in his list of year one story ideas for issue #10 (though, obviously they changed it to be the prototype, probably to line up with the Ted Hughes Iron Man reference):

  • One of the things I really appreciated the fan creators continuing is the idea of Shaft getting more and more into the old-school ideas associated with superheroes. From trick arrows to now wanting to have a trophy room, it's a fun way to show a new generation's appreciation for the old vestiges that Moore seemed to enjoy.
  • It was Moore's idea, mentioned quite a few times, that Waxey made a fortune in the wax business, but he never mentioned Waxey advertising as the Waxman or that his identity had been revealed to the public.
  • I'm gld someone finally addressed that Leonard calls Waxey "Dad." However, it is very unlikely Moore would have been so emotional in the way he handled it.
  • Moore had the idea to break up Sally and Leonard, though his ideas on how to handle it seem quite different from how it was ultimately handled:
  • Szazs was not mentioned as an idea for Youngblood, in Supreme #53, Professor Night is said to have an "elfin antagonist," so I guess it makes sense that there would be one for Suprema and Twilight, too:
  • The title "Youngerblood" seems like something Moore would have gotten to eventually, considering his title for issue #2 was "Bad Blood" and his title for issue #4 was "Young Guns."
